Light Among Minnesota State University, Mankato Graduates

Minnesota State University, Mankato will award 1,796 degrees to 1,753 students at the end of the fall 2020 semester, with this fall's graduates celebrated through a special website with commencement videos that will be available at 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, the day on which the University's three traditional graduation ceremonies were scheduled but cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

KEEP IOWA BEAUTIFUL TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS

Keep Iowa Beautiful (KIB) will award three $1,000 scholarships to Iowa high school seniors in 2021 who plan to enroll in an Iowa college or university. The scholarships are in honor of three pioneers in Keep Iowa Beautiful's 20-year history:Bob Byers--Educator. Through Bob's leadership, KIB's Litter-Free School Campus program was started in NW Iowa.

Trees Forever Announces Citizen Campaign to Replant Trees Devastated by Derecho

Organization asking citizens to join the effort to replant and care for a new tree canopy for the next generationTrees Forever, a local non-profit organization, today announced a citizen campaign to support replanting the trees devastated by the August derecho. The Planting Hope campaign will plan for the purchase and repopulation of trees in communities including Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Marshalltown and rural areas in the derecho's path.

Iowa PBS seeks stories of rural Iowa

Iowa PBS has launched a new initiative intended to celebrate the people, culture and stories of rural America by showcasing the diversity, traditions and richness of small town and rural life in Iowa. During this ongoing research project, Iowa PBS will conduct interviews with stakeholders from all across the state that serve rural Iowa as well as partner with local filmmakers and journalists to shine a spotlight on compelling, relevant and authentic stories.
